People are becoming more and more aware of the benefits of essential oils for cancer. Although research in essential oils for cancer is ongoing, it is encouraging to know that essential oils provide hope for cancer patients!

Natural-Health practitioners, Dr. Eric Zielinski and Dr. Josh Axe, talk about Essential Oils and Cancer:

Essential oils (“EOs”) have shown to be very effective at relieving the effects of not only cancer itself but also the side-effects of chemotherapy and other medical interventions.

There is hardly an essential oil that does not have a mechanism for fighting cancer. Let’s have a look at some essential oils for cancer prevention and treatment:

1. Turmeric Essential oil for Cancer

It’s not surprising that turmeric essential oil is on our list of essential oils for cancer. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and has several antioxidant and antibiotic molecules. It also has a number of anti-cancer and anti-tumor molecules. Other potent, health-boosting properties come in the form of vitamins and alkaloids.

Clary sage essential oil has a fragrant compound called sclareol as its main component. What is so amazing about this ingredient is that it can actually trigger cancer cells to kill themselves off, without harming healthy cells. This process is called apoptosis (programmed cancer cell death).

Oils of citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit and mandarins contain a terpene called D-limonene, which is one of their major ingredients.

D-limonene can inhibit the growth of tumors and cause cancer cells to die.

There has been much positive response to treatment with D-limonene in cancer patients – for example,  with breast and colo-rectal cancers.

Orange Essential Oil for Cancer

Largely thanks to D-limonene’s potent cancer-fighting ability, all citrus oils can be regarded as effective essential oils for cancer. Top of the list is orange essential oil. Orange and mandarin essential oils have PMFs that have been shown to suppress the growth of lung cancer cells.

5. Frankincense Essential Oil for Cancer

Some health-care experts say that frankincense essential oil is the ultimate essential oil for cancer treatment. Research shows that frankincense can be an effective treatment for brain, breast, colon, pancreatic, prostate and stomach cancers. 6. Lemongrass Essential Oil for Cancer

7. Lavender Essential Oil for Cancer

Every day we are exposed to free radicals from toxic chemicals, pollutants and other health risks. These can cause damage to our cells and immune system, resulting in illness and even cancer.

You can think of antioxidants as the “super-heroes” that can protect us from these onslaughts on our health and well-being. Although our bodies can create antioxidants to fight against free radicals, our systems are often overwhelmed and so we have to supplement.

This is where lavender essential oil becomes an important cancer fighter because of its potent antioxidant support.

According to a study, lavender essential oil was shown to be a powerful protector of cells against oxidative stress that could lead to cancer.

8. Peppermint and Spearmint Essential Oils for Cancer

People undergoing conventional medical treatment for cancer often suffer unpleasant side effects, such as nausea and vomiting. Peppermint and spearmint essential oils (and several other EOs) have been helpful in providing relief from cancer itself as well as from the side effects of conventional cancer treatments.

Essential Oils for Cancer

    1. Hello, Becca – Essential oils can be used in various ways; however, because they are very concentrated, they are generally not taken internally. They can be diluted with a carrier oil and applied topically, used in an essential oils diffuser (which releases the vapors into the room) or drops can be placed in hot water and the vapors inhaled. Everyone’s requirements are different. We can provide basic information here and also purchasing information but for actual treatment procedures etc. you should consult a natural-health practitioner such as a naturopath, homeopath or qualified essential-oils practitioner.
